Mindfulness is Overrated

Mindfulness is a powerful tool for staying connected to ourselves, but it should not be overestimated.
Mindfulness is to the mind what massage is to the body. It usually feels good and can help with some issues, but by itself it will not improve your strength or overall fitness.
Doing only mindfulness is the same as doing only stretching for your body and not exercising at all.
You would not think that massages alone are a complete approach to training your body. In the same way, we need to complement mindfulness with more powerful practices such as Emotional Stabilization Exercises and Emotional Processing.
[2023-08-02 Update:]

Practicing mindfulness is not the most effective way to improve emotional stability.

Just because something has a positive effect does not mean it is enough. Mindfulness is a good thing. If it has a positive effect on you, you can keep doing it. But the real danger is to overestimate its effects and not do more effective emotional exercises.
A recent study showed that even certain types of breathwork are more effective than mindfulness. And breathwork only scratches the surface. Specific techniques for Emotional Stabilization are much more effective.
Mindfulness will not train your body in any meaningful way. It will not increase your strength or resilience. It is not made for that. Just as massages are meant to complement exercise, not replace it, mindfulness cannot replace more effective emotional exercises such as proper stabilization techniques and emotional processing.
